I know there are many of you who hate this vegetable. In fact, I did too. But then being married to a broccoli lover made me give this a shot and now I like it too.
Broccoli florets
Garlic
Red chilli flakes
Salt, Oil
- Boil water in a pan. When it is extremely hot, drop the florets into it. Remove it within a minute. Squeeze out the water if any. This keeps the florets a li'l crunchy and in a lovely hue of green :)
- Heat oil and add a whole mashed garlic clove. Once it has browned, you can remove it. The taste should've seeped into the oil. Else, mince the garlic extremely fine and add it to the oil.
- After sauteeing the garlic, add the chilli flakes. Fry it. Add the broccoli florets.
- Add salt and fry for a minute or two. Remove from fire and eat it with rasam & rice :)
P.S: If you still dislike it, then no problem :) And yeah, that's not a picture of what i cooked :D
hey I love Broccoli too :) only when it is crunchy...so to make it crunchy , i boil it in hot wter and then take it out and immediately run cold water over it...that will stop the broccoli to cook further and keeps the broccoli crunchy..
ReplyDeleteit is yummy if u add that to our veggie pulao or even chinese noodles!
Now that's a tip i didn't know :)
ReplyDeleteHmm...pulao we haven't tried yet but yeah we have it atleast twice a wekk :)
Huh.. I hate Brocolli. But i saute it in oil for a long time until the brocolli smell is gone and then add it in veg pulao or biryani. I go thru' the trouble because, the mixed vegetables comes with the brocolli :(
ReplyDeletefabulus green tempplate! love th pic on top! am *gree n* with envy now! :))
ReplyDeleteHave you tried paruppusili with broccoli? The only way I can tolerate the thing.
ReplyDelete@piggy: :D aah, the trials of a bachelor cook :) The garlic smell in this recipe kinda takes over the broccoli smell.
ReplyDelete@shub:Thank you :) Well, I need to keep my visitors happy, hence the change in ambience :D
@Munimma: Hello! Enakku nalla nallaye paruppusli varadhu :( But the Mr is an expert, maybe will ask him to try that :)

Broccoli prevents cancer (of the stomach/colon) it seems! This blog is a yummy idea, btw! I think the only reason I don't kill myself for a failure to find any meaning in life is Food and Food alone. :D
ReplyDeletePut some good (tried and tested) recipe of javvarisi payasam) please. I tried it once using an online recipe and it came out like crap.
ReplyDeleteif you dislike broccoli but would like to eat it because of its purported health benefits, you could boil it with sambar paruppu and make a normal sambar. it would be hard to figure it out.
ReplyDeletethats what i used to do when i cooked for 10 people, some of whom were avoved haters of broccoli...and it always worked.
@Gif: I finally found time to do it :)
ReplyDelete@LC: I agree, food is reason enough to live. Even if there are many unanswered questions and unquestioned answers :)
Javvarisi payasam is a tall order esp since The Mr doesn't like sweet at all :( So i hardly make payasam. But i'll try first n then let u know. I tried thirattu paal 2 months back. If u come home you can see me breaking the dish to get it out :D The Mr knows how to make broccoli Sambhar :) SO he does that, while i make the ordinary broccoli soup n stir fry etc :)
Ok thiratti pal is a tall order for me. But I do know about the existence of a quick recipe for making fundoo palkova using condensed milk, two tsp of yogurt, a bit of whole milk and a microwave oven... you can find it at mallika badrinath's microwave cooking book or i bet on google! it is quick and tastes great. (you see, there was a gujju guy who ate with us and everytime i made this, he offered to share his investment secrets with me. it is that good, i guarantee! :D )
ReplyDeleteNow that is indeed wonderful. BUt i hate Mallika Badrinath. I tried couple of her biryanis and they weren't good at all :( No, i am not a bad cook :p
ReplyDeleteThere is one more with Broccoli that you and Mr. may like. Take the flowerets in a bowl and add pepper jack cheese and some Ajwain seeds and some pickeled jalapenos and microwave for one minute. Awesome smell and taste.
